Tall, with salt-and-pepper hair, the United Arab Emirates-based photographer Tarek al-Ghoussein greets me at his apartment-cum-studio, which is situated alongside Abu Dhabi's beachside road, the Corniche. Classical music—Beethoven, more specifically—fills the airy living room, which is adorned with artwork. Some of the pieces are by al-Ghoussein himself, some by fellow artists, but many of the works—the ones he is most eager to talk about-are by former students.
