Designed to protect plants from the fluctuating forces of the wild, greenhouses are symbolic of humankind’s attempt to tame nature. In Cambodian-Australian filmmaker Allison Chhorn’s 46-minute docufiction The Plastic House (2019), however, one such enclosure serves as the setting for a young woman’s meditation on what lies beyond her control, including the death of her parents.
