Interweaving Realms

Driven by the feeling that she had lost her tikar (mat)—a platform for sharing and discourse—Yee I-Lann decided to move her studio from Kuala Lumpur to her hometown of Kota Kinabalu in 2016. She subsequently embarked on a new body of work in collaboration with Keningau weavers from the Borneo interior and Bajau weavers from Pulau Omadal in the Sulu Sea, creating conversations between craft traditions and her personal artistic vision.
