AUCTION REPORT

Choppy Waters

New York auction houses appeared unruffled by the United States government’s new round of tariffs on goods originating from China, which took effect after works had been consigned and transported for the auctions in September and October. The annual art sales at Christie’s Shanghai fared well, though auction houses in Hong Kong saw uneven results, possibly due to unfortunate timing as some sales coincided with a weekend of protests and traffic disruptions.
