On July 28, Mitch Cairns was announced as the winner of the Archibald Prize for portrait painting, receiving an AUD 100,000 cash award for his depiction of fellow Australian artist Agatha Gothe-Snape.

In early August, Bard College’s Center for Curatorial Studies and its Human Rights Project named curator and writer Galit Elait as the 2017 Keith Haring Fellow in Art and Activism, which provides an annual grant of USD 80,000.
