Bushwick, Brooklyn, is one of several urban pockets that have provided artists in New York City with relatively inexpensive studio spaces. As former and present manufacturing districts, such as Soho, Dumbo and the Lower East Side, evaporated with the Midas crunch of gentrification, artists moved on to new territory, with developers and other speculators lurking in the shadows. Ten years ago, conceptual, performance and installation artist Mika Tajima was among the pioneers of Bushwick-based emerging talent.
