Beijing Galleries Put Caochangdi On The Map

Beijing's burgeoning contemporary art scene is expanding as quickly as the city itself, as Caochangdi, a quiet working neighborhood in Beijing’s northeast outskirts, is now vying with the more developed 798 art district as a local art boomtown.

Not surprisingly, many of Caochangdi’s new residents have links with artist-turned-architect Ai Weiwei (see AAP 40, 53 & Almanac 2), who built his studio there in 2000. New York dealer…
