Naive optimism or recovery?

Halfway through the year, nine months since the world’s financial markets tanked, auctioneers and dealers alike are remarking that the art market might finally have hit bottom. Many predicted a bloodbath at the May auctions of modern and contemporary art in New York and Hong Kong, and the June and July sales in London, but to the delight of both sellers and dealers, sales were better than expected.
