Auckland Gets Major Donation of Modernists

AUCKLAND — A billionaire hedge-fund manager and would-be novelist and his wife have made the largest donation of art to a museum in the Australasian region. On May 7, the Auckland Art Gallery (AAG) announced they will receive a gift worth NZD 115 million (USD 74 million) from New York collectors and philanthropists Julian and Josie Robertson. Though the bequest comprises just 15 paintings, 12 on canvas and three on paper, the artworks are by major figures including Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Piet Mondrian, Fernard Léger
