Complex artistic concepts are often realized most successfully by the simplest material structures. Douglas Gordon and Rirkrit Tiravanija’s Cinéma Liberté/Bar Lounge (1996/2008), their collaborative contribution to the recent exhibition of ten mid-career artists, “theanyspacewhatever,” at New York’s Guggenheim Museum, provides one such example.
