HONOLULU — One of the most influential artists of the Chicago Imagists, Raymond Kakuo Yoshida, died of cancer in Honolulu, Hawaii, on January 10, 2009.

Yoshida was born in 1930 in Kapaa, Hawaii, to Japanese parents. His mother was born in Kauai, while his father, born in Hiroshima, immigrated to Hawaii when he was young. After graduating from the University of Hawaii in 1950, Yoshida was drafted into…
