Christie's first set its sight on Asia in the 1970s. It established a regional office in Tokyo in 1973 and followed that by staking out a place in Hong Kong in 1986. By the 1990s this pioneering auction house further expanded with additional offices in Taipei, Singapore, Seoul, Bangkok and representatives in Beijing, Jarkarta, Kuala Lumpur and Mumbai. And late last year, Christie's became the first foreign auctioneer to operate in China
