History will most likely record 1993 as the year when Bill Clinton was first inaugurated president of the United States and the World Trade Center in New York City was first bombed. In Asia, 1993 will stand out as a year of change: Jiang Zemin assumed the leadership of China following the death of Deng Xiaoping, Mongolia held its first presidential elections, and PLO leader Yasir Arafat and Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin signed a peace accord.
