Father, grandfather or godfather— however history comes to regard him— there is no doubt that Nam June Paik played a pivotal role in the development of video art. His death in Miami Beach in January at the age of 74 was mourned by many who saw his life as essentially paralleling the evolution of a medium that he was among the first to recognize, create and exploit.
