Styrofoam in combination with an eclectic or even trashy aesthetic has become a frequently occurring phenomenon on the Berlin art scene (think of the work of German artist Björn Dahlem or Andreas Zybach's last exhibition at Johann König gallery, for example). Japanese artist Yoshiaki Kaihatsu's aesthetic is quite the contrary, though: he transforms used Styrofoam packaging material into elegant architectural and spatial interventions. For his first show at Murata & Friends ("Final Packing,” 2008) he covered the walls of the gallery with this ephemeral yet indestructible material…
