Cambodia's First Visual Arts Open

Described as a nation where "survival...was a matter of personal initiative rather than state intervention by the late Cambodian art advocate Ingrid Muan, Cambodia is not a place readily associated with contemporary art.

But Cambodia has come a long way in three decades: it is a nation in rapid recovery. A milestone in this progress is the first Visual Arts Open (VAO), curated by artists LiMa Saphan and Sopheap Pich.

Opening in Phnom Penh on December 9 and running through the end of 2005…
