VARIOUS LOCATIONS — Thirty-nine-year-old Singaporean photographer Sherman Ong’s SGD 30,000 (USD 22,000) prize in the first ICON de Martell Cordon Bleu photography award on June 17 has more than monetary value. “This award will enable people in the outside world to know not only Singapore photography,” said chief juror Agnès de Gouvion Saint-Gyr, “but Singapore society.” Indeed, notable new avenues for global understanding through art are opening around the world.
