Born in Tokyo in 1969, Akira Yamaguchi makes work that applies classical Japanese painting techniques to portray contemporary themes and subjects, a style known as Neo-Nihonga (“New Japanese-style”). Currently he is participating in the 17th Biennale of Sydney. Later in the year, Yamaguchi will have a solo exhibition at Mizuma Art Gallery in Tokyo.
