Who said Asia's in a recession? During one of the most harrying biennial openings in recent memory, including two-hour-long ferry rides along the Bosphorus to hunt down or imagine a non-viewable artwork that mingled with the fish deep underwater, Istanbul Biennial's overzealous artistic director Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev managed to create a self-indulgent spectacle of herself while raising maritime challenges to viewers.
