These days, less is more

After speculating in these pages for several months that the contemporary art fair would evolve from the bigger-is-better bloat and aggression that defined the past decade to something softer and more intimate in scale, alternatives are beginning to take form. G-tokyo, a new contemporary fair, pitched itself as a series of miniature, tightly curated kunsthalles, while New York’s seemingly endless Armory Show lacked the liberated spirit of a small new fair that inherited several of its former participants.
