On September 10, the five recipients of the 27th Praemium Imperiale awards were announced, one of whom is the prolific Japanese painter Tadanori Yokoo.

New Zealand sculptor Jim Allen was conferred the prestigious Arts Foundation Icon Award on September 15. The 93-year-old is regarded as a leading figure in the Post-Object Art movement in New Zealand during the 1970s.
