Svay Ken

Home And Country

by Erin Gleeson

Everyone is a welcome guest at Svay Ken's home, which doubles as his studio and gallery. For guests, he will stop painting mid-stroke, gather books of snapshots that document his work, and move his wobbly painting chair to the table near his exhibition wall. In the company of Svay Ken and his paintings, one can follow the course of Cambodian history from 1933 to the present— the span of his life.
