India: A Long Time Coming

Although India has a vibrant history of postcolonial art practice, India's participation in major international exhibitions of art throughout most of the 20th century has been meagre, fragmentary, marginal. The country's 5,000-year history does not help matters: the Antique hangs like a millstone around the neck of the practitioner whose idioms, preoccupations and strategies are of the Now.
