Mixing the genres of still life and historical painting, Xiaoze Xie offers a mediated view of world events found in the library stacks of outdated newspapers. Discovering and photographing these bundled subjects in institutional depositories, he takes the information as he finds it and lets the recorded histories become the narrative of precisely rendered paintings.
