THE BIG PICTURE
Queensland Looks East
The Australian State of Queensland—once known only for surfing, rum, meter maids in gold lamé bikinis and the rightest of right-wing politics--is about to become home to the most remarkable and innovative art museum in the southern hemisphere. The new Queensland Gallery of Modern Art, which opens next year, will stage the fourth Asia Pacific Triennial as its inaugural show. Funny for a state with few Asians, which once sported a political candidate who ran on a platform of throwing all of them out.
