Indemnity system for Japan’s museums
For much of 2010, an exhibition of post-Impressionist paintings from the Musée d’Orsay in Paris did a three-stop tour that encompassed one venue each in Japan, Australia and the United States.
It was a great success. Both the Tokyo and Canberra exhibitions placed within the top 100 in The Art Newspaper’s attendance rankings for 2010.
Pats on the back all round? Perhaps—but perhaps not. Importantly, The Art Newspaper doesn’t rank exhibitions profits, which might give a different impression.
