Tcheu Siong

Stitching Dreamscapes

BY YVES BERNARD

Laotian artist Tcheu Siong draws on the potent imagery of her dreams—as interpreted by her shaman husband—to weave together cheerful but symbolically loaded narratives replete with tigers, eagles, toads and human figures.

Vat Tso Nom ("Spirit of the Tiger"), 2008, fabric, 190 x 107 cm.

Tcheu Siong’s exhibition “The Genie Behind the Scissors,” held at Project Space in Luang Prabang in December 2010, was a crucial step in achieving wider recognition for a talented but overlooked artist. Works such as Vat Tso Nom
