Remote and abstract at first glance, Han Tao’s enormous woodblock prints resolve abruptly into shockingly familiar scenes of violence and death from Tiananmen Square and Iraq’s Abu Ghraib prison—infamous images that once saturated the media. “Here They Come,” Han’s solo exhibition held in August, paid ominous testament not only to these and other atrocities, but to the depths of the artist’s own depressive rage
