Paper cutting is a dying art in the Philippines, where heritage conservation and culture are not government priorities. In Bulacan province, finely cut paper is used to cover a local treat called pastillas. These wrappers are made by Filipina craftswomen with a seasoned knowledge of symmetry and design. Yet the artistry soon might be lost even to these practitioners, as profit becomes more important than craft.
