Janet Laurence

Over Janet Laurence’s five-decade career, the Sydney-based installation artist has consistently explored people's engagement with the natural environment in her work. Recently, at the 2010 Sydney Biennale, her WAITING – A Medicinal Garden for Ailing Plants (2010), a transparent mesh greenhouse filled with glass and stainless steel vitrines and laboratory glassware, imagined the psychological state of the plants it contained. Frequently working outside commercial galleries, Laurence is best known for her publically accessible art, including the collaborative architectural intervention, Edge of the Trees (1994), and two permanent site-specific installations comissioned for the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale…
