“Otherness,” which bridges both the pleasure and pain of looking at art, was in good supply at “Asia: Looking South,” an exhibition of eight artists from Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. But the particular blend of straightforward, shocking freakishness, combined with the formal tropes of contemporary art history, was not easy to place on any world map…
