There is little doubt that the video works in Yuan Goang-ming’s recent exhibition “Before Memory” represent high technical achievements—but are they achievements as art? With newness as an oversold virtue in contemporary arts nowadays, and with technological fetishism as a dominant force in contemporary culture, one has to ask the question cautiously.
