“Nine Deaths, Two Births” at the Smithsonian Institution’s Arthur M. Sackler Gallery revealed Chinese artist Xu Bing’s creative process in a visually didactic manner. The exhibition detailed the trials surrounding the labor-intensive, two-year production of his Phoenix (2010), a work commissioned in 2007 as a site-specific project for the World
