In his latest work Me in Me (2013), Ming Wong, who has masqueraded as countless silver-screen characters in past projects, pushes the boundaries of performativity by taking on the guises of multiple Japanese archetypes. This work was the centerpiece and namesake of the Singaporean artist’s solo exhibition at Tokyo’s Shiseido Gallery. As its awkward title suggests, Me in Me elides overt meaning, unlike Wong’s earlier works,
