If You Can’t Take the Heat . . .

Everyone knows that summer can be a grueling affair in much of the Asia region. So how did the art world spend it? Thailand’s high-flying filmmaker and artist Apichatpong Weerasethakul migrated south to Peru and Brazil to enjoy a bit of winter in July. Kamrooz Aram, known for his canvases inspired by traditional Persian and Islamic art, escaped the New York City heatwave—where temperatures soared to 40 degrees Celsius—by heading to Istanbul, just after the tempestuous Gezi Park protests had subsided.
