It was easy to get lost in the labyrinthine passages of the Sharjah Biennial—easier still with no map. On the opening day, jet lag and my own imprudence conspired, and I left the guidebook in the hotel and roamed between baking courtyards and refrigerated halls, lost. But desultory…
