Is it too soon to be nostalgic for the alternative scenes of the 1990s? Maybe not, considering the radical transformation of the arts across the Asia-Pacific region. Organizations have evolved from a limited pool of scrappy nonprofits into a sprawl of publicly funded and private institutions and multinational galleries; meanwhile commercial fairs and biennials have mushroomed from Hong Kong to Dubai.
