Pouran Jinchi is an Iranian-born New York artist whose work may be described as a mixture of near eastern calligraphy and abstract expressionism. The melding is true to Jinchi's education: she spent three years studying calligraphy while growing up in Mashad in Iran, and another three years studying painting at the Art Students League in New York. Her style, with its intricate calligraphy, complex markings and subtle traceries, aligns with the principles of western abstraction…
