From July through to September 2000, The Artists Village, none of Singapore's most significant contemporary art groups,1 undertook a series of on-site exhibitions titled 'Artists Investigating Monuments' ('AIM'). As the organising committee explained in their planning notes:

In AIM, we would like to explore the dual meanings of monuments. On the one hand, monuments represent official meanings, on the other, they can represent the individual's or the collective's struggle
