In a recent conversation with a couple of Californian art collectors, I mentioned that great contemporary art was being created in the Pacific. Their immediate response was 'What kind of art? New tribal stuff?'. No, I responded, 'Paintings on canvas, sculptures, prints, using the same type of media that you see in New York, Sydney or LA'.
