'Lullaby Supermarket', a recent survey exhibition at the Santa Monica Museum of Art, featured installations, wall reliefs, collages and drawings by the savvy and beguiling neo-Pop Japanese artist, Yoshitomo Nara. Along with Takashi Murakami, Taro Chiezo and Mariko Mori, he emerged  on the international art scene in the mid-1990s, investigating media culture's winning allures and empty promises. Central to Nara's current exhibition are his signature cartoon-styled children whose daily struggles, and pent-up resentments, disappointments, loneliness…
