Other than the Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, Australian audiences unfortunately see very little contemporary art from the Asia-Pacific region. While Australia's closest neighbour, Indonesia, has featured prominently in the media over the past few years, the focus has been on the radical political upheaval following the decline of Soeharto's New Order regime and the violence in East Timor, Aceh and Ambon, with little about what these changes mean for the Indonesian people.
