Nalini Malani

Missives from the streets

NALINI MALANI, Dreamings and Defilings, 1991, accordion book, 22.9 x 279.4 cm. Side 1: watercolour, ink and enamel on mylar. Side 2: watercolour on monotype and photocopied collage on sunlight buff, collection the artist. Photograph Prakash Rao.

Nalini Malani's work, perhaps too complex to dissolve into simple formula, could be described as a sort of seamless conflation of documentary truth, missives of affective urgency and a kind of Dionysian coaxing of the phenomenological world into existence as she probes beyond conscious intentions to the more subliminal sources
