When Kyoko Chirathivat opened her Bangkok gallery in December 1994, it became the first in Southeast Asia to show top-notch contemporary western art exclusively. Her announced intention was also to incorporate aspects of the museum/art institution into the gallery concept. More than just a commercial venue for viewers and buyers, Kyoko wanted it to become a 'cultural place' where people could learn about art and gain an international perspective on art.
