The Necessity of Craft: Development and Women's Craft Practices in the Asian-Pacific Region is a vital contribution to the growing body of literature on the social production and transmission of objects. Previous works have tended to focus on the commodification of 'traditional' objects such as craft and their cultural history. Two books comprising collections of essays are outstanding in this field.
