Editorial

This issue of ArtAsiaPacific has been designed to complement two major exhibitions being staged simultaneously at opposite ends of the globe: "Contemporary Art in Asia: Traditions/Tensions", the Asia Society's first exhibition devoted to contemporary Asian art, in New York; and the second Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, at the Queensland Art Gallery in Brisbane. Where "Traditions/Tensions" concentrates on the art of five countries—India, Philippines, Thailand, South Korea and Indonesia (other countries will be covered in subsequent exhibitions)—the Asia-Pacific Triennial ambitiously aims to canvas the entire Asia-Pacific region.
