Minding the modern

Either in a fit of pique or in a moment of deep reflection, a student in my art criticism class captured what could be swirling in many minds in Manila these days: 'the resurgence of banal wallpaper and couch-friendly art bursting in bulk at the gallery circuit's seams.' The convulsion, of course, could either bring forth new life or just spawn more morbid signs of the cancer and its pernicious infections.
