In July 1996 Hong Kong's Urban Council organised an exhibition of waterlilies at the planetarium of the Hong Kong Park. Despite the unbearable heat of a Hong Kong summer, the park was packed every day with enthusiasts taking photographs of the waterlilies. The waterlily is a popular photographic subject not only because it is a frequent subject in traditional Chinese painting, but also because it is a symbol in China of something 'coming out of the mud but ableā€¦
