'Gender Beyond Memory: The Works of Contemporary Women Artists' is one of the first exhibitions in Japan to directly examine gender and the general problem of discrimination. It challenged the ‘I’ of viewers, whether they thought of themselves as male, female, Japanese, American, Caucasian, Mongoloid, young or old, overflowing these boundaries into otherness.
