Ahn Pil-yun is one of a new breed of young Korean women artists whose work blends feminist politics with the personal experience of belonging to an inherently patriarchal social culture. Her installation at Sherman Galleries Hargrave provided for Sydney audiences a taste of Korean feminism, though the artist herself tentatively refutes an overtly political reading of her work.
